About Judo

Judo was founded by Jigoro Kano in 1882 in Tokyo, Japan. Judo techniques come mainly from the ancient martial art of Ju-Jitsu and in English the word Judo means the “Gentle or supple way”. The essence of judo is the skilful application of a combination of techniques, such as the power of resistance and effective timing. The main focus of judo, however, is the utilisation of your opponents body weight and strength against him or herself. However, please note that Judo involves throwing techniques, groundwork fighting and arm locks and strangle holds, which may not be suitable for all children.
